Sobre Nós -About Us

Em 2020, a pandemia da Covid-19 nos deu a oportunidade reinventar nossa maneira de trabalhar. E que fazer com o tempo adicional? E como evitar a ansiedade e a depressão causadas pelo isolamento? Para resolver essas questões, muitos de nós recorremos à Tandem.net para aprender português e inglês. Um por um, estabelecemos conexões significativas, mas faltava algo: a interação no grupo. Em maio ou junho de 2020, lançamos uma reunião virtual aos sábado pela manhã. Continuamos a estudar e praticar as duas línguas. 

Claro que melhoramos nossos conhecimentos de inglês e português--e mantivemos amizades maravilhosas que perduarem e florescem. Nos ramificamos também.

In 2020, COVID-19 gave cause for pause: As we began working from home and wondered what to do with time that had been spent commuting, some of us worried about spending too much time isolated.  To address these concerns, many of us turned to Tandem.net to learn Portuguese and English.  One by one, we established meaningful connections, but something was missing: group interaction.  In May or June 2020, we launched a Saturday morning virtual meeting. We continue studying and practicing both languages.

Of course, we've improved our English and Portuguese skills--and maintained wonderful friendships that have lasted and flourished. The group has-branched out, too. 

In 2022, some Brazilians asked for a class where they could focus on improving their English. We didn't spend sleepless nights thinking about a name; we responded quickly to the demand and got to work and joy of helping Brazilians (many of whom didn't want appear on camera) with English for Shy People.

Em 2022, alguns brasileiros pediram uma aula onde pudessem focar em melhorar o inglês. Não passamos noites sem dormir pensando em um nome; respondemos rapidamente à demanda e começamos a trabalhar e a alegria de ajudar os brasileiros (muitos dos quais não queriam aparecer diante das câmeras) com English for Shy People.

A maioria de nossos participantes é do Brasil ou Boston, Massachusetts. Quem quizer melhorar o nglês ou português, independente de onde mora, é bem-vinda a se juntar a nós. 

Most of our participants are from Brazil or Boston, Massachusetts. Anyone who wants to improve their English or Portuguese, regardless of where they live, is welcome to join us.
